RetirementIQ v8.0 - Meet LEARN

Version 8.0 is here, and it is a major step forward in how RetirementIQ helps you understand retirement — not just calculate it. It brings the language and terms of retirement into plain English, and it explains how RetIQ approaches the many aspects and complexities of this stage of everyone’s life. Retirement is hard enough without the vocabulary working against you.

Meet Learn

Learn is a new tab in the app, sitting alongside Workflows and Guide. It is where RetIQ teaches, and it has three parts.

An onboarding check. The Retirement IQ Check is twelve questions across six areas of retirement planning — about three minutes in total. Every answer is explained, “Not sure” is a perfectly good answer, and the result maps what you already know, area by area, and suggests where to start. New users see it as a first-run choice: take the check, tour an example family, or go straight to their own plan.

A dictionary. Learn is a glossary of 74 retirement concepts — IRMAA, provisional income, the tax torpedo, the widow’s penalty, QCDs, the 10-year rule, sequence risk, and more. Each entry gives a plain-English definition, the current-year figures RetIQ uses, where the concept appears in your plan, and its legal or published source. The ⓘ icons throughout the app open these cards, and where a concept has a number in your plan, the card shows it — “your largest RMD: $X at age Y.” The ? button in the header lists the concepts used on the screen you are on.

Guidance, using the families. Guided Tours walk you through the Clarks, the Lees, or the Washingtons on their live projections. Some steps let you apply a change — claim Social Security at 70, turn on a Roth strategy — and show the honest before-and-after, whether it helps that family or not. Tours run on the example family, so your own saved plan is never touched.

Out of the way when you don’t need it

Learning should never be in the way. One setting — Guidance, in the Learn tab — controls everything unprompted. Off shows no tips or nudges, Light adds “Why?” links beside plan findings, and Guided introduces a concept the first time it matters. At every level the Learn tab, the ⓘ icons, and the ? button are there the moment you reach for them. Nothing is lost by turning help off, and one click brings it back.

Knowledge and tools, together

Learn complements the rest of RetIQ. Workflows are the step-by-step tasks you do on your own numbers; the Guide is where you ask questions about your plan; Learn is where you understand the rules and the concepts behind both. Knowledge and tools, in one place.

As always, Learn is free, private, and transparent. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no tracking, no network calls, and your plan never leaves your device. The educational layer costs nothing, the app remains a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and every regulatory figure carries its source. The same material is published at retirementiq.app/learn, with the check at retirementiq.app/iq-check.html.

Also in v8.0: the OBBB senior deduction now correctly applies to itemizers as well as standard-deduction filers, and loading an example family no longer overwrites your saved plan.

Version 8.0 is live now. Open RetIQ, take the three-minute check, or browse the glossary — no account, no card, nothing to install.
